About Dad

Dad was born on December 7, 1947 in Texas. I don't know much about my dad except the things I was told. He never said much about his past. He played football in high school and dropped out at 16 or 17 and enlisted in the Army where he became a Medic. He was sent off to Vietnam and was in the 1st Air Calvary Division. While there he was wounded and earned himself a purple heart. After the war, dad became a nurse. I was always very proud of what my father did. My mom was an RN and he was an LPN. They both always worked long hard hours. Dad loved the ocean. He bought a sailboat when we lived in Hawaii and we went out a few times on it. He also loved to cook and was always busy in the kitchen whipping up something amazing. We all loved his gumbo. No gumbo has ever lived up to what dad's was. Dad was a prolific writer. I always thought he wrote so eloquently with the words he had to say. I was envious of his beautiful penmanship. Sometimes dad would sing, be it in the car, or in the house. He'd burst out singing something I had never heard of before. Usually a Hank Williams song. I think dad will mostly be known for his charming sense of humor. He always loved to pull a fast one on the unsuspecting. There are many stories. If you knew my dad, you know what I'm talking about. He was a good guy. Dad had a lot of hard times. Maybe it stemmed from his childhood or maybe the war brought it on....but like everyone and every life, we had good times and we had bad. But, nothing will ever change the fact, that dad loved us. And we loved him in return. I miss you dad. We all do.
